The Pastor's Corner
From the Pastor's Heart
The earthquake in Haiti has brought back a multitude of memories for me. We had the privilege of working with the Haitian people on and off for a period of eight years. We made several mission trips down there. I have preached in many of their churches of various denominations. We have been a part of building, feeding, and well drilling projects. The Haitians have always been a poor people and now the little they had is gone.
Foremost among my memories of Haiti are the children. Even before the earthquake, thousands of children roamed the streets with no idea who their parents were. Though there were many orphanages, many run by stateside missions, these were inadequate to meet the need. Many of the children bore signs of extreme malnutrition, stomachs bloated and hair which should have been black having turned orange. I have never felt as overwhelmed in my life as I was on my first mission to Haiti seeing such a multitude of children with so little hope of survival.
I hope and pray that you will search your heart and seek God’s guidance concerning what you can do to help in this crisis in Haiti. They are years away from experiencing any kind of real recovery. If you are able to help, there are several ways you can give. To give through the church or the Baptist relief effort you can give through the church offering or make checks payable to North American Mission Board and send to Haiti Disaster Relief Fund
